The 10th annual Rickerson Cup, a one-day collegiate rugby tournament, will be held on the Saturday of April 2nd this Spring at the Rugby Complex, West Windsor Fields, Princeton University Campus. This  yearly tournament brings together many competitive teams – men’s 15s, women’s 7s, and both a boys’ and girls’ high school exhibition match – for a full day of rugby. As envisioned by its founders, it will be “a festival of rugby.”

10th Rickerson CupWhen: Saturday, April 2, 2016

Where: Rugby Complex, West Windsor Fields, Princeton University Campus

Times: MATCHES ALL DAY — From 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Finals begin at about 3:00 p.m. Award ceremony follows immediately.

The men’s side of the tournament this year comprises of teams from all rugby playing New Jersey colleges (among them, Rutgers, Seton Hall, The College of New Jersey, William Patterson University, Rowan University, Montclair State, Drew University, NJ Institute of Technology and Princeton), a testament to the growing strength of rugby in the state.

The women’s side of the event will involve as many as 10 premier women’s teams from around the Eastern Seaboard. Named after Princeton alumnus Stuart Rickerson, the Rickerson Cup focuses on both celebrating rugby and raising awareness for pancreatic cancer, which is the #3 cancer killer in America. It is a lethal disease, but one where research into its causes, early diagnosis, treatment, and recovery has been underfunded historically.

All proceedings raised in connection with the tournament will go toward the “Pancreatic Cancer Action Network,” the leading national advocate for patients and their families. To date, this event has raised more than $270,000 for the group’s “Community for Progress,” which brings researchers together to collaborate and to accelerate scientific progress in pancreatic cancer and thereby enhance the research grant funding it provides.
