Princeton Women’s Rugby had a great start to the fall 15s season playing in their first game away at Cornell University. The game started off on a good note, and continued that way through the whole eighty minutes despite the muddy conditions. Captains Felicia Saravo ‘20  and Keren Kabambi ‘19 were amazing in their new leadership roles, and made sure that all players, experienced and rookies alike, knew what to do in order to play an effective game. Player of the match went to winger Alicia Wang ‘19 , who scored two tries and kicked countless conversions off the wet field.

First Half:

Princeton started off the first half with a try from senior Alicia Wang within the first ten minutes. She also made the conversion, making the score 7-0. The tries kept coming. Efforts by Coco Wallace, Alicia Wang, Sydney Hsu, Felicia Saravo, and Keren Kabambi left the Tigers leading the first half 54-0. Alicia Wang made seven out of nine conversion kicks. The Tigers played an effective and quick offense game, seizing all opportunities. Defense was solid as well. The Tigers won a significant number of the scrums and rucks, limiting Cornell’s offensive possession. Towards the end of the first half, Cornell had a close opportunity running down the sideline, but Wang managed to push her into touch and keep them scoreless.

Second Half:
The Tigers showed no mercy in the second forty minutes. Tries were made by Kate Denner, Kai Liu, Alicia Wang, and Sarah Dillender, all remarkable team efforts. Preseason training showed with the Tigers’ endurance and physical fitness this half. Freshmen rookies Ange Ndayishimiye and Monica Patino proved their worth battling for the ball in contested rucks and breaking the line on offense. Despite the less than favorable field conditions, PUWRFC played a great game and demonstrated that the long and hard practices are paying off.
