Andrew Bailey
- Position: Assistant Coach
A Californian, born and raised, Bailey started playing rugby in his hometown, Pleasanton (go Dons), before becoming a 4-year starter at UCLA (go Bruins). In his senior year, UCLA was ranked in the top 5 nationwide in both 15s and 7s rugby and Bailey was invited to the All-American camp. Unfortunately, he was unable to participate due to a mid-season shoulder injury (foreshadowing).
After graduating from UCLA in 2014, Bailey moved back home and helped coach the Pleasanton Cavaliers high school boys team (go Cavs) and refereed for the NorCal Referee Society (aka NCRFU Pelicans).
In an interesting turn of events, Bailey was admitted to the Biomedical Engineering department at UC Santa Cruz (go Slugs) in 2016 and was eligible to play one more season of rugby. Unfortunately, he had shoulder surgery the previous summer! While rehabbing, he helped coach and was able to make it back in time to play 13 in the final game of the season where UCSC beat Stanford.
After graduating from UCSC with a PhD in 2021, his wife started her PhD in Princeton’s Civil and Environmental Engineering department (go Tigers!). He joined the men’s Princeton rugby team in 2022 as an assistant coach and is looking forward to contributing to the long tradition of Princeton Rugby.
