Matt Comito is a New Jersey native who began playing rugby in high school. He went on to play at Rutgers University for 4 years, predominantly playing scrum half but gained experience everywhere in the back line. Following his graduation, he played for the local Princeton Athletic Club for a year before a knee injury turned his focus to refereeing.

Matt has spent the last 4 years as a referee in the New York Rugby Referee Society officiating matches throughout the tri-state area, including national college quarterfinal and semifinal matches. During that time, he also took part in several national and international tournaments, including New York 7’s, the Can-Am rugby tournament in Saranac, NY, and the North American Invitational 7’s tournament in Salt Lake City.

Matt joined the Princeton Men’s Rugby program as a back’s coach in 2022.

Matt is a Level 1 USA Rugby Coach and a C2 Level Referee.
